In Part 1 we covered how a basic downstream injector works. This is Part 2 — where we make the system cleaner and faster with a 3-way valve.
Most guys still use a drop tube. You finish applying chemical, then walk over, pull the tube out of the bleach, drop it into water or neutralizer, and hope you don’t spill everything on the deck or your boots. It works, but it’s slow and messy.
A 3-way valve eliminates that.
How it works:
The 3-way valve has two inputs and one output that feeds the injector. In a typical setup you’ll have:
- One side plumbed to bleach
- One side plumbed to water (or neutralizer)
- The center outlet going to the chemical injector
The lever positions are simple:
- One direction = bleach
- Middle = off
- Other direction = water
Wherever the indicator is pointing is the liquid being drawn. As long as you have water flowing through the injector and a low-pressure tip on the gun (or nothing attached), it will pull whatever you select.
That’s it. No more walking back and forth. No more dripping chemical across the trailer. No more contamination between tanks.
Why it matters:
- Faster rinse between chemical and water
- Less risk of chemical burns or spills
- Cleaner system overall
- Longer life on the injector because chemical isn’t sitting in the lines as long
- Fewer “why isn’t my injector pulling?” headaches
We use these on our personal rigs and every trailer we build for a reason. Once you run one for a week, going back to a drop tube feels like a step backward.
